Keith Landers, a
recent graduate of St. Peter - Marian High School, was
selected in the Major League Baseball amateur
draft by the
Baltimore Orioles. Landers, a 6-foor 7-inch and 205 pound
starting pitcher, now has to make a
decision between signing with the Orioles or heading to the
University of Louisville, where he has a four-year
scholarship waiting for him to pitch for the Cardinals.
Billy Cather, a
senior-to-be at the University of Maine - Orono and a 2005
Worcester Academy graduate, was
selected in the Major League Baseball amateur
draft by the
Washington Nationals.
Cather, a speedy center fielder with
excellent range, is coming off another solid season for the
Black Bears of Maine. The 6-foot, 182-pounder, batted .328
with 4 home runs and 25 runs batted-in. He hit 7 doubles,
scored 35 runs, and stole 15 bases in 19 attempts.
He is currently playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League for
the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, weighing his options to turn
pro or to return to Maine for his senior season.
